Sabyn - Foolin' Around (Remix) - Digital Single

As a member of the Owens/Parton family and the son of Randy Parton, Sabyn’s new
single, “Foolin Around,” is not just a remix and re-imagining of a song recorded by his
aunt and uncle — Dolly and Floyd Parton — for the 2024 album Smoky Mountain
DNA. It’s also a further exploration of his family’s musical roots, combined with a bold
exploration of new musical landscapes.

“I’ve done some similar remixes,” Sabyn says. “I did ‘9 to 5 to 9’ back in 2021 which
was built on Dolly’s ‘9 to 5,’ and then I did ‘Oh Tennessee’ which sampled my dad’s
song, ‘Tennessee Born,’ so that was the sound that I’d cultivated and been working
on for a very long time. When Richie Owens hit me up about recording something for
the Smoky Mountain DNA album he gave me options for a few songs. I chose Dolly’s
‘The Seeker,’ which became ‘Holy Water’ for the album, but I also did a version of
Floyd’s ‘Foolin Around.’

“Floyd’s original solo recording definitely had its own sound, Floyd and Dolly’s
version [on Smoky Mountain DNA] has its own sound, and my version definitely has
its own sound. On the ‘Foolin Around’ record I’m venturing into singing for the first
time. What I did was incorporate Floyd’s version into all the choruses, but I’m singing
all the verses, and I added a hip hop verse.”
The result is a totally different take on a great song and a great example of how
some creative “foolin’ around” can lead to a fresh sound and vision.
